Virgo New Moon and the Hanged One

I’m back from a long summer break. It may take a few posts before I regain my astrological bearings. But here I am with a huge dose of Virgoan humility to temper any expectations.
The Virgo New Moon always comes at the time of year when the energy begins to feel crackly and electric, and we start itching to make tangible upgrades to our lives or the lives of others . . . an energetic hold-over from the harvest season when we began preparing and strategizing to survive the cooler, less fertile months.
This particular New Moon is an interesting one (as they all are). It is ruled by Mercury slowly progressing through Leo after its retrograde period. Despite being Virgo season, our minds are still ruminating over how we want to show up in the world. How do we want be seen? What gifts do we want to showcase? How can we contribute an authentic piece of ourselves? Mercury square to Uranus in Taurus is urging us to answer these questions differently than we may have in the past. Mercury trine to Jupiter and Mars in Gemini is asking us think expansively and act swiftly.
But before we make any hasty decisions about a new identity, Saturn retrograde in Pisces opposing this New Moon is asking about our spiritual progress. Over the past year or so, Saturn in Pisces has been demanding that we put some real time, focus, and effort into our spiritual lives. This could look like a meditation practice, a study of ancient wisdom, or a renewed reverence for time-tested spiritual traditions. But has it elevated our Leo energy enough to authentically express ourselves in a way that isn’t about ego gratification? This New Moon will keep us humble and honest as we reflect on that question.
Venus is conjunct Lilith and the South Node in Libra, forming the tail of a kite. Neptune retrograde is the nose of the kite, sitting at the 29th degree of Pisces (the last degree of the zodiac!). At the wings are Pluto (returning to the 29th degree of Capricorn for the last time) and Uranus retrograde at 27 degrees of Taurus, still in orb of Algol—a fixed star with a nasty reputation.
Three outer planets all retrograde and all at the last few degrees of their current signs, and one personal planet in South Node energy holding on for dear life at the tail. What does this all mean? In a nutshell, we are on the precipice of major shifts in our collective consciousness. Pluto in Capricorn has been transforming institutional structures (banks, schools, governments) in such a way that they can support a new paradigm. Uranus in Taurus has been helping us find innovative ways of caring for the planet and natural resources. Neptune in Pisces has been dissolving old illusions that have kept us stuck. As the outer planets occupy the crisis degree (29th), these shifts will become more apparent. Venus, emboldened by Lilith and the South Node, will make use of the illumination provided by these crises and help us reassess our values, our priorities, and shore up our integrity within relationships. It’s a heavy load of energy to carry right now.

So, what are we to do at this Virgo New Moon? After all, Virgo is traditionally the sign of ‘doing.’ Simply do whatever life is asking of you. Don’t make it too lofty or too complicated or too divorced from present circumstances (Virgo is grounded and practical). Instead, embrace the sensitive responsiveness of Virgo energy by setting a New Moon intention to have intimate, honest conversations with life. For example, life has been sending me stray cats lately (about thirty). They show up at my door, hungry and thirsty. So, I feed them and give them water and think about how to ensure their well-being going forward. Life asks, and we respond. That’s all. That’s the practice. Do whatever needs doing and we will flow harmoniously with these planetary shifts like a drop of water in a river’s current.
Tarot Guidance:
The Moon and The Hanged One

The Moon is asking us to dissolve illusions about who we are, what we should achieve, what status we should hold, and what imperfections we should erase. The Hanged One is asking us to simply surrender to the flow of our lives. Instead of trying to prescribe how life should go and how it should look, maybe we just give up the struggle and get curious about it. What if living life is like reading a good novel? What will happen next? If we stay quiet and alert, we will find out and be in awe of its perfect unfolding.
With Love and Moonlight,
Ann
