BIRTH CHART

A birth chart maps where the sun, moon, planets, and asteroids were positioned at the time of your birth. Each of these bodies symbolizes a specific energetic quality. Their location (or ‘house’) in the sky suggests how this energy might manifest in your life.

 

The purpose is to highlight skills, abilities, desires, behaviors, and spiritual intentions. Studying the birth chart brings these energy patterns into conscious awareness so they can be enhanced, balanced, or healed per your life goals.

SIGNS, HOUSES, PLANETS, ASPECTS

 

Imagine you are in the desert looking up at the unobstructed starry night sky. It would look like a large circular dome. Across the center of the dome (and around the entire Earth like a belt) are twelve special groups of stars called constellations, each of which represents a zodiac sign. Like people, each zodiac sign has a unique personality with different strengths, weaknesses, hopes, and fears.

Now imagine the sky that surrounds the Earth is divided into twelve sections, just like the sections of an orange. In astrology, each section is called a ‘house’ and represents a different life focus. Now you have twelve sections, each housing one (or more) of the twelve zodiac signs.

The sun, moon, planets, and asteroids positioned within each house and sign add extra significance or meaning. And how those heavenly bodies are positioned in relation to each other further determines their energetic manifestation in your life.

Interpreting a chart involves an understanding of how these four pieces of information (sign, house, planets, and aspects) interact. It’s an intuitive process, and there are as many possible interpretations as there are astrologers. An astrologer's role is to simply serve as a guide, not a fortune teller. You are the one that can most accurately assess how the details of your horoscope manifest in your life.

HOUSE SYSTEMS

A house system refers to the method an astrologer uses to determine where each house begins and ends within a chart. Though different methods may shift the placements of certain planets from one house to the next, the overarching themes remain the same. We most often use the Placidus house system, which has been the most popular among U.S. astrologers for the last several decades. When evaluating transits, however, we also like to reference the Whole Sign house system.
