Natal Mercury Opposition

It was one of those days that felt like just a bunch of loose ends . . . loose, wild ends with minds of their own, each fighting for attention. I would get an idea, then get distracted, then frustrated, then I would try again. It wasn’t entirely unproductive though. I did manage to make my son chocolate chip pancakes, and I did battle an ant infestation. But, through these mundane activities, I felt the ache of unfulfilled personal desires. This sounds melodramatic for an average Thursday . . . but as I looked at the day’s astrological weather, I realized that it wasn’t an average Thursday, it was my Mercury opposition.
A Mercury opposition happens for everyone once a year. It is a day or two when transiting Mercury reaches the halfway point on the journey back to its natal position in your chart and asks you to evaluate whether you are meeting your own mercurial needs. Reaching back about six months ago, did you have interests that you wanted to pursue, blogs you wanted to write, skills you wanted to develop, or conversations you wanted to have? How much time have you given to those cosmic nudges?

Today, Mercury is nearing 22 degrees of Gemini, exactly opposite my natal Mercury positioned at 22 degrees Sagittarius. My brain was full of rich Sagittarian ideas and inspiration, but it was also agitated by my inability to bring any of them to fruition. Scattered, unfocused, grasping, panicked.
But then I remembered that I can speak the language of the stars; I can honor the cycles of energy that animate our human collective; and I can jump into the flow of this divine ecosystem at any time.
Mercury is currently sextile some fiery feminine energy in Leo (Moon, Pallas Athena, and Black Moon Lilith) all squaring Uranus in Taurus. There is an urge to express authentic personal experiences and a challenge to express them in a way that contributes to the collective good. So, by harnessing the Pisces Saturn which provides a container for spiritual practices, I am writing this astrology blog: part personal rant, part cosmic encouragement.
If you ever find yourself fretting over the short end of a Mercury opposition, take a breath and listen to what it has to say. As hard as it may be, let it redirect your efforts and reallocate your time. In six months, you’ll likely be glad you heard its message and heeded its advice.
Tarot of the Day: Hierophant reversed and Eight of Pentacles

Relax and re-evaluate all the “shoulds” that are ruling your life. Are they really contributing to your sense of accomplishment? Or are they actually stifling your productivity?
Instead of focusing solely on societal obligations, take some time to work on whatever is calling to you. You may be surprised to find that a little redirection pays dividends.
