December Energy Overview

Happy December 2015!

The chart below summarizes this month’s spreads. After a cursory analysis, a few interesting patterns emerged.

First, there are 17 'number seven' cards including 5 Chariots (4 of which are in the Present position). This is pretty significant since we really should only expect to see 7-8 number seven cards. This month will clearly be one in which we must all exercise our will. Possibilities might include standing our ground in the face of dissent, maintaining our cool in the face of turmoil, using restraint in the face of temptation, or persevering in the face of an obstacle. On a deeper level, sevens are all about introspection and seeing the undercurrents of energy at play instead of just the outward manifestation of those energies. In this way, we harness the ability to be grounded amid chaos and fluctuating circumstances. In general, the sevens are guiding us to reflect instead of act this month.

As mentioned, 5 signs had the Chariot appear in the reading, 4 of which were in the Present position, indicating that there is a prominent issue surrounding control or lack thereof. Typically, my interpretations are more figurative than literal, especially in a general reading. But in the month of December when many are traveling for the holidays, I must concede that the Chariot could very well refer to travel plans.

A related trend is the high number of Major Arcana in the Present position (58.3%). People are feeling intense this month which is understandable given everything happening in the world coupled with the holidays, family reunions, travel plans, and the New Year right around the corner. Pressure cooker, indeed.

41.6% of the signs had Court Cards in the Advice position. Interesting, there were no Queens or Pages! Hmmm. Seems a bit of masculine energy is required to make it through this month. Continuing with the Court Card stats: 33% had Queens in the Future position, 33% had Pages in the Foundation position, and 33% had Knights in the Goal position. This tells me that many of us have a fledgling idea brewing and we really want to breathe some life into it. It will take a combination of intuitive insights (Queens in Future) and masculine drive (Knights and Kings in Advice).

41.6% had the World show up somewhere in the spread. What a perfect card to have right before the New Year. Many are in the process of reinventing themselves and hopefully ascending to the next level of spiritual evolution. That gives me some hope.

There are a lot of Pentacles in the Future and Environment positions, which makes sense in the month of December. There is a focus on material resources (Christmas presents) and health (overindulgence??). There are a lot of Swords in the Outcome position, so it appears that there will be some issues surrounding communication and/or clarity of mind.
