Goodbye Mexico; Hello Real Life

Mexico was amazing. It did everything that I needed it to do. I was sucked out of my everyday slog long enough to get some clarity about what parts of my life I enjoy and what parts are being maintained with very little payoff. There were certain goals that had long lost their shine, but I was still feeling obliged to accomplish them. I had completely underestimated the amount of mental and emotional energy those dead dreams were consuming and the amount of guilt they were producing. It’s important for me to remember that sometimes an idea, a goal, a hobby, a job, etc. is complete when it no longer holds my attention. It has served its purpose, given me what I needed, and now it is over. In many cases (not all, of course), there is little reason to be a slave to the appearance of accomplishment. So this month is about cleaning house...figuratively and literally. I am cutting myself loose from obligations and associated guilt to make room for the things that do capture my attention, passion, and imagination! I am also continuing to scour our house (a process that began more than a year ago) and sell everything that is just taking up square footage. This will hopefully allow for more space to breathe and empty our cluttered minds. Happy May!
