The singing telegram is an endangered species

I found one once, and they invited me to dinner

For spaghetti and Jello

I learned how easily they cry and how much they complain--

mostly about their childhood

I learned how much care and attention would coax them open

How much applause would disperse their pollen

And how one approving nod

would have them singing loudly again
